The Festival of Light in the Old City of Jerusalem is an annual arts festival which in 2014 will celebrate its 6th year. The festival, which lasts a week, is sponsored by the Jerusalem Municipality, the Prime Minister’s Office, the semi-public Ariel Company and the Jerusalem Development Authority, as well as commercial sponsors.
It offers, through the use of light as a raw material, and technology, new dramatic and artistic dimensions to the Old City. From the illumination of the ancient stones and alleys to avant-garde statues, installations of light sculptures, performances, tours and artwork created by both Israeli and international artists, the festival is a family oriented celebration . In previous years it attracted more than 250,000 visitors to the Old City from the evening and well into the night.
Through light, discover the city's uniqueness, contours and strength. See the beauty of Jerusalem enhanced by the sculptures and see Jerusalem in a completely new 'light'. Let yourself be carried away by the rush of emotions you will feel as you wander the streets and participate in the numerous events.
Jerusalem is Israel's capital city. During the day you can take advantage of its central location and tour the Old and New City's archaeological, religious and cultural sites, travel to Bethlehem, Masada and the Dead Sea or take a tour to the center of Israel and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Tel Aviv with its beaches, museums, restaurants, cafes and shops.
