2003 marks the first year that "White Night" celebrations were held in Tel Aviv. This event marked UNESCO's awarding of World Heritage Status to the more than 4,000 Bauhaus buildings (the "White City") built by German Jewish architects who had immigrated to Palestine in the 1930s, fleeing the Nazis.
On June 26th, 2014 White Night will celebrate its 11th anniversary from 9.00 pm to sunrise.
Are you ready? Here we go.
Fancy being a bit serious at first?
Museums are open without charge. Concerts, classical music recitals, lectures and philosophical discussions take place at different venues. There are also free opera performances in the Tel Aviv Opera House.
Once you get a taste of some of the drinks and special menus offered at the various bars, clubs and restaurants, watch the street performances along Rothschild Boulevard, join the "Big WiFi Earphone Party" in Rabin Square, a Bollywood dance workshop on Gordon Beach, or an Irish dance workshop. Dance Israeli folk dances or play beach volleyball while the children participate in an art workshop in Bialik Square or in a poetry reading and sing along. If you are into ballroom dancing, go to Habima Square. If movies are your thing, there are all night screenings at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque.
The street performers in the Jaffa Flea Market, the vendors at the Carmel Market, the Vintage Fair, the fashion shows, the street parades, the art sales and a late night tour of the White City are all waiting for you. You will be spoilt for choice. There is something for everyone.
But why choose? Why not try and do a little of everything if you can?
And, if you still have the energy, you can enjoy yoga at sunrise in the Tel Aviv port area or a sunrise show at Zuk Beach.
Tel Aviv is waiting for you. the city that never sleep!
