Israel Museum
The Israel Museum was established in 1965. It is a world renowned art and archaeology museum. It is Israel’s largest cultural institute, housing nearly 500,000 different items in its collections. The Israel Museum hosts the largest assortment of biblical and Holy Land archaeology in the world. It also houses Fine Arts, and Jewish Art and Life wings.
The Israel Museum is home to the Shrine of the Book. This unique building holds the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest biblical scripts still in existence today. Additionally, the Israel Museum’s Model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple Period provides a duplication of the landscape and architecture found in the ancient city before it was razed by the Romans. The Billy Rose Art Garden features oriental landscaping, breathtaking views of the Jerusalem hills and an impressive display of sculptures by internationally-renowned artists.
The Israel Museum’s campus offers educational tours, a gift shop, a dairy café, meat restaurant, study centers and various libraries. The Ruth Youth Wing for Art Education provides courses for educators, special exhibits for children and adults alike, and unique interactive collections.
