Megiddo
Megiddo is
a kibbutz in northern Israel. It is located in the Jezreel Valley in the Lower Galilee. It is adjacent to the famous archaeological site, Tel Megiddo National Park,
the site of the final battle between the forces of good and evil at the end of time, known as Armageddon. For this reason, Megiddo was named a UNESCO World Heritage site.
At the Tel Megiddo National Park, visitors will find ruins from a city created during the third century BCE. The metropolis was surrounded by protective walls, later used by the Egyptians as a pivotal point along Via Maris. The ancient city passed through many hands including the Israelites during the era of Kings David and Solomon, King Ahab of Egypt and the Assyrians.
The site features an ancient water system, remnants of the original palace, defensive lookout points, and horse stables. Additionally, Megiddo houses an indoor museum with multimedia presentations, scale models of the original site and a souvenir shop. Guided tours through the Tel Megiddo National Park are available by advanced booking and are presented in either Hebrew or Russian; the tour is easy for hikers.
Site admission fee to Tel Megiddo National Park. Open year round 8 am - 4 pm; April - September, open until 5 pm.
